I am sorry for taking so long in posting the instructions for reducing
PDF file sizes, but here there are for whatever they are worth.
To begin with make sure that Adobe Distiller is installed on your
computer. This utility is usually included in the default Acrobat
installation.
1. Open the document in its authoring application (e.g., open your pdf
file in Adobe Acrobat)
2. Choose file>Print, choose Acrobat Distiller from Printer Name pop-up
menu. In some applications, you may need to click setup in the print
dialog box to get access o the printer name menu.
3. Select Print only to File option, and enter a name and location for
the Postscript file you are about to create. Use .ps as the filename
extension (e.g., "myfile.ps")
4. Click print or ok. (At this point, Adobe Distiller will print your
document to a file)
5. Close the authoring application.
6. Find the Postscript file in its output location.
7. Double click on the Postscript file. The file automatically opens in
Adobe Distiller and converts to PDF.
This process sounds much more complicated than it actually is. The
whole procedure usually takes less than a minute and PDF files created
using this method are significantly smaller.
