Subject: Mutatis mutandis re Computers in Libraries conference
I don't mind semi-commercial postings on the list, but when large claims get
made they deserve to be responded to. The statement that Computers in Libraries
remains the single most important conference for
librarians and information specialists in K-12, public, college and medical and
health sciences, Universities, and special libraries (end quote) needs
several responses:
1) This is a commercial conference run by Meckler to make money; it is not
a professional conference;
2) The very global statement I just quoted is simply pretentious. I submit that
ALA remains the appropriate best forum for combining all those needs mentioned.
In specific areas, perhaps, other conferences may be very relevant.
The posting of the message, specific to registered attendees, sounds
opportunistically like advertising rather than of specific help to the
CWIS list.
