I was able to telecompute/telework during my sabbatical project last
semester. My project was to expand and stabalize the NACO-Music Project.
By virtue of the "Network," I could correspond with all participants,
review authority records on both OCLC and RLIN, check LC MUMS, and query
other library catalogs as necessary from a pc at home. With a dial-up
connection to OCLC from home I also contributed authority records from the
OCLC/LSP machine to LC. In five months, the project contributed ca.
1500 authority records from eight different institutions. My "computer"
work was all done from home.
Telework is technically possible for many areas of library work. It's been
talked about for years. Clearly this is no longer a technical question
but an administrative one!
