The new video phones, available from AT&T for less than $1500,
will make a substantial contribution to telework. Educators will
be able to hold up graphics, point to objects, and use body
language. With fax, full size copies of documents can be shared
with groups quickly. With an answering machine for the video
phone (can it be long in coming?), messages can be left for the
callees convenience, an advantage email users have long
appreciated.
HOw popular video phones will be in the home, I don't know.
Perhaps only business users will have them at first, but fax is
starting to make its way into the home market already.
