The idea of a Usenet feed for CNIDIR-L is perhaps fine for those with USENET
access, but not all of us have the option of access to that particular informa-
tion overload (IO) entity.

My point in bringing up the "ancient" view of IO was merely to point out that
worry about such things has been fairly constant for a long time. Whether the
problem is qualitatively or quantitatively different today is another matter.
People always seem to think that things are worse today; people in the past
thought that, too. I don't think a little historical perspective hurts on these
matters, or did the NREN bill outlaw that? Sure the problems of energy, food
gathering, etc., etc. are different today--so what? So far man has managed to
figure out ways of approaching each new permutation of these problems. Are you
saying there is something so different about today's versions that we'll never
be able to attempt to solve them?---A.J. Wright
