Lou Rosenfeld inquired about "projects which are attempting to bring order
to the chaotic collection of resources available via the Internet."

I would suggest contacting Sally H. McCallum, Chief, Network Development &
MARC Standards Office, LM 639, Library of Congress, Washington, DC 20540;
email: smcc@seql.loc.gov.

She distributed on CNIDIR-L in three parts in early December 1991 MARBI
Discussion Paper no. 54, "Providing Access to Online Information Resources".
I recommend it to anyone interested in this topic. The paper was to be
discussed at the MARBI meetings at ALA in San Antonio on January 27. If you're
listening, SSally, perhaps a summary of discussion could be posted to CNIDIR-L.

There is also the Coalition for Networked Information's own TopNode project.

When I posted a similar message calling for a public catalog of InterNet
resources, Greg Newby at the Grad. Sch. of Lib. and Info. Sci., U. of Ill. at
Urbana-Champaign, said he was "planning a standard and an application to make
Internet resources more available." (I hope Greg doesn't mind my using his
name.) The only other projects he mentioned were the LC USMARC network
resource standard (MARBI Discussion Paper no. 54) and the OCLC project.
