I will also being attending and am willing to push the Z39.50 barrow.
Like Ralph though, I believe that the group will not go with Z39.50
even though it meets most of their requirements. The reason (in my
opinion) is that Z39.50 does not meet the critical (but unstated)
requirement:
The infrastructure must be stateless and use HTTP as the
transport.
We can try and fight this requirement, but it will be difficult
because web developers want this functionality.
One of my goals at the meeting is to ensure that the new protocol
easily interoperates with Z39.50. This can be acheived by
incorporating as much Z39.50 functionality as possible. Most
importantly, support for community profiles by allowing independently
defined attribute sets (such as BIB1) to be used in queries.
