In answer to your question, Blue Angel's MetaDoor Provider offers a
Z39.50-compliant OLE DB Service Provider. Developers can use MetaDoor
Provider to build applications which retrieve information from
standards-compliant servers anywhere on the Internet. The information
can then be imported directly into a user's desktop applications.

The MetaDoor DataFinder is a Z39.50 client search interface via OLE DB
that is being released in January, 1999 and enables distributed
searching across different profiles from within Microsoft desktop
applications.
