You are invited to participate in an Open Forum on Metadata Registries.
It will be held February 16-19, 1999 in Washington DC, following SC
32/WG 2 Plenary and editing meetings scheduled for the previous week.
You are invited to register to attend. You may also participate by
contributing relevant papers or web links.

Participants from private enterprise, government, academia and standards
organizations will discuss the development and operation of metadata
registries, particularly those based on ISO/IEC 11179. Practitioners
and standards developers will discuss progress in efforts to manage
the content (semantics) of data that is shared within and between
organizations or disseminated via the World Wide Web. Presentations and
discussions will cover tutorials, implementation plans/experiences,
proposed new work items for standards, and related topics.

The Open Forum is Organized by the International Organization for
Standardization / International Electrotechnical Commission (ISO/IEC),
Joint Technical Committee 1 (JTC 1), Subcommittee 32 - Data Management
and Interchange (SC 32), Working Group 2 - Metadata (WG 2)

For full information about the Open Forum on Metadata Registries, and to
register to participate, check the Open Forum web site at:

   http://sdct-sunsrv1.ncsl.nist.gov/~ftp/x3l8/sc32wg2/openforum/

Note that if you need to stay in a hotel, a block of rooms is being held
for Open Forum participants. Reservations must be made before January
8, 1998 to get the special rate. See the web site list of hotels for
reservation information.

Participation in the Open Forum is open to all who are interested, but
will be limited to about 100 persons. A block of spaces at the Open
Forum is being held for National Body delegates to the SC 32/WG 2
meetings. Anyone who wants to participate in the Open Forum, is asked
to go the Open Forum web site (the URL above) and register. If you are
also attending the WG 2 meetings the previous week, please note that
fact in the comment section. This will help us to allocate space, since
the delegate lists for the WG 2 meetings are not due until January 15,
1999, which makes it hard to offer maximum free space to other
interested individuals.
