1) "Discovering Online Resources Across the Humanities: A Practical
Implementation of the Dublin Core". Edited by P Miller and D Greenstein on
behalf of the AHDS and the UK Office for Library and Information
Networking, "Discovering Online Resources" provides a practical and
accessible introduction to the importance and use of Dublin Core
"metadata" for the purposes of describing and discovering humanities
information resources online. Resulting from an extensively
consultative study funded by the UK's Joint Information Systems
Committee and involving hundreds of information specialists,
and humanities scholars, the work will be relevant to anyone interested
in cataloguing, finding, or integrating access to distributed online
information resources. The work comprises six chapters and an extensive
"bibliography" providing pointers to those who require further information
about metadata, the Dublin Core, cataloguing standards currently in use
in the humanities, and the Z39.50 network application protocol.
"Discovering Online Resources" is available from the AHDS's web site at
http://ahds.ac.uk/public/metadata/discovery.html
A printed copy, (96pp, A4 size) is also available from the AHDS.
Information about how to order your copy is also available from the Web
site listed above.
2) AHDS Newsletter Issue 1:3 is now available from our Web pages. The
issue focuses on humanitites computing methods and on digital image
and visual arts resources and services in the UK. It also contains the
latest news items from the AHDS including new accessions, projects,
publications, etc.
3) "Scholarly Digital Collections". Pointers to large-scale digital
collections and information resources relevant to their development,
management, and use. This page currently focuses on digital libraries but
is in the course of extension to other collection types.
4) Our new web site. Taking advantage of a move to our new Unix server,
the AHDS has redesigned its web site streamlining access to our growing
range of information resources and services. We are pleased to announce
the launch of this new-look site to which some further, minor
modifications will be made in the coming weeks. We would welcome
your feedback and comments on the new site (info@ahds.ac.uk). In the
meantime, please change your bookmarks as appropriate.
