Reply to Michael Eisenmenger. Well stated. Too many times people
aren't clear enough on this distinction between commercial and
non-commercial communications which lies at the root of much of our
discussion. It's so simple, but the legions of the right (who seem
to be cowering in their pup tents -or else taking names) seem to
think that money is the highest expression of the human spirit, and
that democracy consists of praising those who have manipulated you
to identify with them.
I saw a sad example in Lima, Ohio last night. I videotaped a
focus group - I think BP was behind it. BP is the #1 polluter in Ohio,
but these nice and not stupid folks were so ill-informed and trusting
that they didn't want to know about potential hazards at the local
plant, and felt that BP was very concerned about pollution and is
and has been doing all the right things.
It was a classic example of Rick Crawford's panopticon idea,
the colonization of consciousness. Where are you, Rick? Tell us more.
