My biggest gripe about Republicans having ANYTHING to do with the
NII is this: Republicans have historically been conservative. This
means they have a problem with change and like to keep things they way
they've always been.
This is a BIG problem when it comes to defining technologies of the
future. These folks live in the past; what do they know about change?
I'm afriad they will simply institute a huge version of the already
pathetic telecom system we have today, complete with widespread
corruption and power-mongering. After all, this is where Republicans
make the most profit.
Another thing that scares me is that Republicans have been
traditionally business-oriented rather than social oriented. They have
good intentions for the most part, but their logic, in general seems
flawed. Take, for instance, TRICKLE-DOWN economics. This is a theory
that if you give businesses and the extremely wealthy tax breaks, the
money the saved will eventually make it back to the little guy via
business exapnsion, etc. The only problem is that the business owners
take that money and put it in their bank- never to be seen again. After
all, why expand factories that are hardly selling product? Why expand
factories to employ more people when people are the most expensive part
of running a business?
Rather than create another politcal elite, let's take this
opportunity to design a system we would be proud of leaving to our
children, and to show the world what AMERICANS are capable of; the first
true I-Way.
