The decision by the Smithsonian yesterday is one more bit of proof
that this is indeed "something ominous." The op ed in today's NY
Times by Barton J. Bernstein, history professor at Stanford Univ. is
a good counterpoint to the Smithsonian's move. The SI clearly sees
the handwriting on the walls of the NEA, NEH, CPB and decided to pass
on the recisions and deauthorization this time round. Official history
will now be controlled by the loudest and most patriotic! I expect
Newt to put the Smithsonian up for sale, anyway, to make a pile of
bucks for the government and get rid of all those objects that just
take up space and people to keep track of them!
