Connecticut Educators’ Computer Association

January 15, 1995

Dear Educator:

This past fall, CECA ( The Connecticut Educators’ Computer Association )
made the theme of our 14th annual conference: Technology: It’s Not A Frill
Anymore. The conference attracted so many educators that we had to close
registration and turn people away. It is clear from our experience and from
the growing chorus of voices at the national and local levels that the use
of technology has become a necessary component of our children’s education
It is also clear that Connecticut is lagging behind most other states in a
vision for and funding of educational technologies K-12.

CECA is very concerned about the lack of statewide support for educational
technologies. To focus on the technological needs of Connecticut’s
educational community, CECA has arranged an all day demonstration on how
students use technology to learn in our information rich society. The
exhibition will be held at the Legislative Office Building on Wednesday,
March 8, 1995 from 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.. We will set up displays and
demonstrations of student’s work using a wide variety of educational
technologies. K- 12 students from schools throughout Connecticut will
demonstrate to legislative representatives why technology is an important
learning tool and must be supported and funded on an ongoing basis
statewide.

We need your HELP !

We are asking professional associations and organizations throughout the
state to co-sponsor the day’s event. By lending your organization’s name to
the effort, you will help us to demonstrate broad-based support for the
increased use of technology in our schools. Your sponsorship will be
acknowledged in all advertisements, publications and press releases. We
encourage you to contact legislators to make them aware of the exhibition.
We encourage you to invite legislators to see the technology that few of
our students have the opportunity to use.

We are also interested in your suggestions for small groups of students
and teachers who can come to the Legislative Office Building on March 8th
to demonstrate how they use technology in a learning environment. Groups
are needed from all regions of the state and all levels from Kindergarten
through high school. We are looking for projects from any and all subject
areas where technology is used as an integral part of the learning process.

If your organization agrees to cosponsor, please communicate this
information to:
