Yes, it is a significant "lacking" considering that if you combine the
software producers and users it represents the largest single population
group in the US. Note, for example, that there are more than 4000
software companies in Texas alone, employing well over 100,000 people
and generating more than $14 billion. Second only to Calif. Combine
the top ten states (see D & B figures) you will see some impressive
numbers.
Perhaps John Mancini of AEA might be an interesting candidate. I
could find 10 seasoned folks in Texas from our vast telcom, software,
and chip production industries. Mike Nelson's comments on top of
Marc R's suggests the targets of concern are academically correct but
they also cry (historically) loudly for input from users and the smaller
companies - most of whom cannot pay the freight to enjoy the excitment
of Buenos Aires or Brussels.
I'm sure that all the appropriate issues were, in fact, raised. It's the
broad community of interests that may be missing in this bake off...
