TV DEREGULATION SLOWS DOWN IN SENATE
Because of White House objections that legislation proposed by Senate
Republicans could raise rates for cable and telephone subscribers, the bill
to deregulate telecommunications will be deferred until next month. Senate
Commerce Committee Chair Larry Pressler (R-SD) say he's concerned that the
delay will give lobbyists time to undermine compromises that have already
been worked out. (Wall Street Journal 4/5/95 B3) Meanwhile, the House is
readying its own bill, with Rep. Jack Fields, chairman of the House
telecommunications subcommittee, predicting the legislation will suggest
"minimal involvement" of the Justice Department in overseeing RBOC
activities as they seek to enter new markets. (Wall Street Journal
