The following message was posted on a BBS that I subscribe to, and I
thought some of the readers here might find it amusing...
Subj: VICE PRESIDENT
Yesterday, John Voglewede said only this to his friend Al Gore:
JV> Happy Birthday, Mr. Vice President!
to which Bill Mason, Director of Correspondence
for the Vice President, autoresponded:
BM> Thank you for writing to Vice President Gore via electronic
BM> mail. Since coming on-line, vice.president@whitehouse.gov
BM> has received thousands of messages from people all over the
BM> world.
BM>
BM> Although the volume of mail prevents the Vice President from
BM> personally reviewing each message, be assured that your
BM> concerns, ideas, and suggestions have been read carefully,
BM> and a detailed report of the mail is provided to the Vice
BM> President on a regular basis. Your message will be brought
BM> to his attention as part of that report. We currently are
BM> working toward a system that will allow us to respond more
BM> specifically to your messages.
BM>
BM> In order to do so, your help will be needed to ensure that
BM> we can read and record your message clearly. Please try to
BM> write short and concise messages, address only one issue per
BM> message, and send only one copy of your message. You will
BM> receive one automated response per day.
BM>
BM> [blah, blah, blah]
...short and concise messages?? I can't decide whether to drop the "Happy"
or the "Mr." in next year's message. Maybe I should send "48 :-)" but he
might think I am wearing my glasses on the top of my head with my baseball
cap on sideways...
