Subject: Cox Amendment


To follow up on Jamie Love's message regarding the Cox amendment
to restrict the universal service definition to voice grade
telephone service:  word from both sides of the aisle is that Cox
currently has the votes to pass his amendment and definately
intends to offer it at the mark-up tomorrow.  

The mark-up begins at 10:00 and will likely take all day. 
Therefore any calls or faxes opposing the amendment should be sent
to Republicans on the Committee first thing in the morning.  

At this point the Republicans who might vote the right way are
Hastert (IL), Fields (TX), Oxley(OH) and Klug(WI) the rest are up 
in the air.
