In light of recent ISDN discussions I commend this study by Ms. Gillette
It embodies a very thoughtful engineering cost model which can serve
as a model for all of us trying to make technology trade-off decisions

At long last, my thesis on "Connecting Homes to the Internet: An Engineering
Cost Model of Cable vs. ISDN" is available. You can get copies one of three
ways:

1. From the Web: check out
http://www.tns.lcs.mit.edu/publications/publications.html

and click on the link to the title given above. But note the caveat you'll
see when you get to the web page: this report is 197 pages long and includes
many figures. Binhex (.hqx) appears to be the most universally successful
format for downloading; postscript often causes problems, but the
adventurous are welcome to try.

2. If you have difficulty downloading or would prefer to leave the large
printing job to someone else, you can order a bound copy from
pubs@lcs.mit.edu (available mid-to-late June, 1995). It will be available
to you at cost, probably somewhere between $20 and $30 (international
orders cost more because of mailing).

3. Copies of the original thesis are available now, again at cost, from
the MIT Research Program on Communications Policy (info@rpcp.mit.edu).
Because of MIT rules, this version had to be double-spaced, so it's
282 pages.

Feel free to forward this message. And apologies if you receive this
message more than once; it is an unfortunate side-effect of striving
for a broad distribution.

Happy reading,
Sharon Eisner Gillett
