Subject: Dole PRAISES gratuitous violence

I read in the SF Chronicle (perhaps reprinted from another major paper)
that during the same speech in which Dole put down "Hollywood"
for inundating our children with gratuitous violence and sex,
Dole explicitly *praised* Arnold Schwarzenegger's "True Lies",
which I'm told is filled with gratuitous violence.

For the record, I am opposed to First Amendment absolutism,
and much of my public interest work is aimed at making mass media
(those who own the _big_ soapboxes) more socially *responsible*.

But given Dole's "inconsistency" (blatant hypocrisy if you prefer)
on the subject of gratuitous violence by Republican vs. Democratic
filmmakers, I don't view him as offering a progressive opening.

BTW, I have no objection to Bob Dole criticizing certain aspects of
movies he's never seen. For that matter, I've never heard/read the
speech by Dole that I'm criticizing. Secondary sources can be
trusted to a certain extent for some purposes.
