US SENATE APPROVES TELECOM REFORM BILL
Unquestioned Corporate Domination of the Process

Washington, DC--The US Senate this afternoon passed by an overwhelming
majority vote of 81 to 18, the "Telecommunications Competition and
Deregulation Act of 1995" [S.652]. Members of the Senate were unanimous
in their appraisal of the nature and complexity of the bill during
arguments, revealing that the bill was the final outcome of a fierce
lobbying effort by the various factions of the telecommunications industry
which entirely dominated the provisions of the legislation. FINS 3.12 will
include an analysis of the content and meaning of the legislation in the
next edition of the news column to be released this Friday afternoon.
