_______
HOUSE FLOOR DEBATE ON FUTURE OF OTA SET FOR WEDNESDAY --CALL YOUR MEMBER OF
CONGRESS NOW
The House Appropropriations Committee has formally recommended a zero FY96
budget for the Office of Technology Assessment, U.S. Congress. Information
on OTA's reports and current activities may be obtained from the OTA OnLine
World Wide Web site at http://www.ota.gov or by telnet to otabbs.ota.gov,
login as public. A bipartisan group of Members of Congress will attempt to
restore enough funds to retain a critical mass of expertise at a downsized,
perhaps restructured OTA. The effort to save OTA will take the form of
proposed amendments to the Legislative Branch Appropriations Act for FY96
that is scheduled to come to the floor of the House of Representatives for
consideration and vote Wednesday, June 21, 1995, probably in the early
afternoon. The floor debate will be televised on C-SPAN. Persons
interested in expressing an opinion on the future of OTA should contact the
Washington, DC office of their own Member of Congress by phone IMMEDIATELY.
