YOU CAN HELP SAVE
THE OFFICE OF TECHNOLOGY ASSESSMENT
W. Curtiss Priest, CITS
WHY?
Informed Congresspeople make better decisions!
OTA has informed congress on issues ranging from
technology against terrorism, validity of forensic DNA,
information security and privacy in network environments,
adult literacy, and educational technology.
As you know, decisions involving technology are complex
and there is no other source of high quality information
for Congress.
WHEN?
Now. The Senate Appropriations Committee almost passed an
Amendment on Tuesday to restore OTA's budget 11 for, 13 against.
But three democrats were absent from the meeting.
The Senate will vote on a Hollings Amendment to restore OTA
at 2PM TODAY (July 20).
HOW?
Call your Senator's office and go on record as supporting the
Hollings Amendment to restore OTA.
TO DO?
Please call as soon as you receive this message.
To help you do this easily I have listed the names of Senators
that are critical votes for passage.
Tell the staff person that you are from the Congressperson's state!
Think of a personal account when OTA has been important to
you and say how important that was. If you don't have a direct
personal story, you might say how important the recently released
study -- Teachers & Technology: making the connection is to
the education future of the country.
