Before I share my resignation, I invite you to follow the daily 
updateas on HR 1555 in the House of Representatives this week.  If you

Yesterday I resigned from Pacific Telesis Group, and therefore the
Alliance.  It's been more than 5 years on this political and social beat,
and I've learned a lot.  I started at Pacific in the first place when, as
a community epidemiologist in Los Angeles, I became convinced that simply
handing brochures to people at risk was horribly ineffective and a waste
of time.  At that time in the early 1980's telephone companies seemed
likely to share my interest in interactivity, and so I joined one of the
most progressive, Pacific Bell, upon its divestiture from the AT&T Bell 
System. 

When I could not within a regional Bell company design interactive 
services that were simultaneously usable, useful and legal, I was 
recruited to help in the MFJ effort in DC.  That was 1990.  Today the 
reform legislation is moving towards the floor of the House, and I'm 
moving on altogether.

For those of you who know me, I'm setting up shop as an independent 
consultant, and am grateful for the umbrella extended over me by Rick 
Sullivan at Fleishman-Hillard Inc.  F-H's international capabilities 
are important to me right now; I'll be reachable in their DC office.

This site, <bell.com>, is something I leave with sadness.  A creative 
undertaking, of course, but I've really been happy about the feedback 
we've gotten re our usefullness, our ethics and our speed.
