As all of you are surely aware by now, the Senate Govt. Affairs
Subcommittee of the Senate Appropriations Committee voted, on Thursday, to
eliminate all but the international trade portions of NTIA and to rescind
all TIIAP monies. The full Appropriations Committee is likely to vote on
this today, with a full Senate vote tomorrow (Tues. September 12)
For those of us who care about any equity possibilities on the NII, this
is terrible news. Please contact your Senators & ask your membership (if
you have) to contact theirs and let them know this is yet another case of
gutting an agency that at least attempts outreach to the have-nots to
benefit the already-haves (and want-mores).
I have no idea what the possibilities are of stopping this, but it is
crucial that our voices be heard (and registered--to bolster the President
to veto).
