Subject:  TIIAP Update as of 9/29, 10:20 am


Last night the Kerrey-Snowe amendment to fund the information
infrastructure grants (TIIAP) at $18.9 million for FY1996 was not 
offered to the Commerce, Justice, State appropriations bill.  The 
appropriations bill is being considered right now on the Senate floor 
and the expectation is that the Kerrey-Snowe amendment WILL BE OFFERED 
LATER TODAY.

It is my understanding that the amendment is expected to be opposed by
some Senators.  At this point, it is hard to determine if the amendment 
will have the votes to pass.  If I learn of any new developments, I will 
send an update at that time.
