Many of you know by now, but just in case, FYI the OTA is going out
of business at the end of fiscal year 1995--meaning tomorrow. A
skeleton administrative crew will remain for four months to close
down the facility; all analytical staff must vacate by cob tomorrow
(e-mail and voice mail will be forwarded for one month). All new and
recent OTA reports will continue to be available electronically via
OTAOnline, www: http://www.ota.gov, for several months or more, and
hard copy publications will be sold by GPO, 202-512-1800, while
supplies last, and by NTIS in perpetuity. Also, in several months,
GPO will issue a CD-ROM with the entire works of OTA. The complete
works of OTA will be available at several university and depository
libraries. Some OTA staff, under the leadership of Vary Coates, are
attempting to set up a privatized, downsized Institute for Technology
Assessment or the equivalent. My latest and apparently last OTA
report, "Telecommunications Technology and Native Americans:
Opportunities and Challenges," was released in late August and is
available via OTAOnline and in paper format from GPO. Starting
October 1, I can be reached by phone at 703-524-0872, and by Internet
at either fbwood@aol.com or fwood@igc.apc.org. Thanks very much to
all of you and your colleagues for your interest in and support of
OTA over the years. Best wishes and may our paths cross again in the
not too distant future. May we all live long and prosper! --Fred.
