POSITION AVAILABLE

Senior Associate
COMMUNICATIONS POLICY PROJECT

Available Immediately

The Benton Foundation's Communication Policy Project promotes public
interest values and noncommercial services for the National Information
Infrastructure through research, policy analysis and outreach to
nonprofits and foundations. We are seeking a Senior Associate to be
the lead evangelist in our efforts to promote nonprofit applications of
telecommunications technology. She or he will publicize successes and
foster relationships among nonprofit organizations that are exploring the
potential of the National Information Infrastructure. She or he will help
facilitate a dialogue in the nonprofit sector concerning the "how to's"
for organizations who want to make the most of new technologies.

The Senior Associate will:
* research telecommunication applications and projects that serve or
are operated by nonprofits.
* become a resource to nonprofits as they assess their role as
information providers and consumers in the Information Age.
* facilitate connections to industry and help identify possible
public/private partnerships.
* report findings in regular postings to other nonprofits,
grantmakers, and Federal and state policy makers.

Reports will include the latest approaches by nonprofit and industry, the
lessons learned in developing these applications, and what's really
working. These reports will appear in print and electronic media such as
the Benton World Wide Web site, Gopher site, and listserv and video.

The Senior Associate will report directly to the Director of the
Communications Policy Project, but will also be part of a growing team at
the Benton Foundation.

Candidates should have a demonstrated curiosity about computer based
information and communications technology in a public service context and
the writing and communications skills to tell these stories
convincin
organizations is desirable, but a strong background and interest in
telecommunications applications is a necessity. The Senior Associate will
be expected to work effectively and efficiently under pressure, be
comfortable with creating her or his own working routine, and self-directed
enough to work without much guidance.

Send a resume and cover letter as soon as possible but no later than
November 1 to CPP Search, Benton Foundation, 1634 Eye Street NW, 12th
Floor, Washington DC 20006. Fax: 202-638-5771. Email: benton@benton.org;
