INFRASTRUCTURE TECHNOLOGIES
WASHINGTON, DC -- Secretary of Commerce Ronald H. Brown will
discuss a report titled, Survey of Rural Information Infrastructure
Technologies on Thursday, October 12, 1995 at 11:00 a.m. EST in
Room 6808 of the Department of Commerce, 14th and

The report, which was authored by the Commerce Department's
National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA), is a
valuable resource for rural Federal, state, and local telecommunications
policy makers as well as providers and users of telecommunication
services, including schools, libraries, health care organizations,
businesses, local governments, and citizens. It describes the
technologies that can be used to deploy an information infrastructure in
rural areas.
"The report will be particularly useful to State and local officials
involved in planning information infrastructures in rural areas and helping
their communities to realize the benefits or the Information Age," said
Larry Irving, assistant secretary of Commerce for Communications and
Information and administrator of NTIA. "To reach our potential as
communities and as individuals, it is becoming increasingly important that
we have affordable access to information and telecommunications
services," said Irving.
The Commerce Department's National Telecommunications and
Information Administration serves as the principal advisor to the
President, Vice President and Secretary of Commerce on domestic and
international communications and information issues.
