The Center for Media Education (CME) presents:

An Issues Forum on CHILDREN AND THE INFORMATION SUPERHIGHWAY
************************************************************

  Senator CAROL MOSELEY-BRAUN,
  FCC Chairman REED HUNDT, and
  Former FCC Chairman NEWTON MINOW
  to Speak

WHEN:
  Wednesday
  October 18th
  9:00-10:00 A.M.

WHERE:
  National Press Club
  14th and F Streets, NW
  Main Lounge

As the 21st century dawns, we stand on the threshold of a new media era.
Future generations of children will be wired to a vast digital universe
that transcends the home, the community, and even the nation. What
public policies are needed now to ensure that this powerful new media
system will be a positive force in children's lives? Join us for a
one-hour forum with the nation's top policymakers and experts on this
vital issue. Among the key questions to be discussed are:

* How can we guarantee that all children -- regardless of social
or economic status -- will have meaningful access to the
     National Information Infrastructure?

* How can schools and libraries be equipped to prepare the
nation's children for the 21st century?

* What safeguards will be necessary to protect children from
     harmful or exploitive media content?

* How can ongoing funding be secured to support noncommercial
     programs and services for children?

* Does the pending telecommunications bill adequately address
     the needs of children?

The session will be moderated by Kathryn Montgomery, Ph.D., who is
directing CME's project on Children and the Information Superhighway.
