Re:     Slaughter Resolution regarding false document

        On Tuesday, October 24, 1995, Representative Louise Slaughter
(D-NY) will introduce a House Resolution regarding the false Alliance for
Justice document prepared and distributed by Rep. David McIntosh's (R- IN)
House Government Reform and Oversight Subcommittee.  

        At the September 28 hearing on the Istook amendment, McIntosh
committee staff distributed a document which purported to be Alliance for
Justice stationery and contained a listing of the dollar amounts of federal
grants allegedly received by Alliance member organizations. No disclaimer
appeared on the document to indicate that it was not from the Alliance for
Justice.  No source was cited for the misleading and inaccurate grant
information.  
 
        The Resolution, which provides a means of dealing with issues that
reflect on the integrity of House proceedings, will demonstrate the
seriousness of the incident and affirm the need for the House to ensure
that documents which come before Members are accurate and real.  As Rep.
Slaughter noted: lA vote FOR this resolution is a vote against forgery and
deception.  A vote AGAINST this resolution says forgery and deception are
OK in Congress.n  

WHAT YOU CAN DO:
        Call your Representative TODAY and ask her or him to vote for
honesty and integrity in the U.S. Congress:  Support Rep. Slaughterms
Resolution on October 24.
