Subject: Status of Telecom Legislation


Last week members were named to the Telecommunications Conference
Committee.  The purpose of the conference is to reconcile companion bills
on broad telecommunications reform: H.R. 1555 and S. 652.  As of today,
there are no scheduled meetings of this committee.  The resulting
compromise bill will be returned to each house later this fall and, if
passed, sent to President Clinton.  For a comparison of the two bills,
