I remember the Carter-fone decision which made it possible for
persons to connect non-Bell equipment to the telephone system. I am
waiting for the first test of the "Carter-fone" decision to citizens
wishing to replace the cable-tv company supplied "decoder" box with
something having a better design -- a slip in card on a computer, or
something built directly by the vendor in the TV set. As things are now,
alot of electronics are wasted because alot of fancy circuits are 
bypassed by the decoder boxes.
