The short answer remains 'no.' Nevertheless, Gore remains "absolutely
committed" to doing the event according to White House and Commerce
Department staff. But his schedule changes from day to day, so getting
us a date a month or more in advance is **very** difficult. (The
schedulers tend to shift things about what he is doing tomorrow, much
less next month.) I am trying different strategies for getting a
commitment and check back very often; let's see what today brings....

In the meantime, I've been trying to generate discussion among the
planning group about other key logistical issues such as choice of venue,
outreach strategies, media support at the conference, etc. We have
already met to discuss the shape of the program -- although more
discussion is needed -- and strategies for ensuring the day moves through
the critical issues with some depth *and* reaches out beyond those who are
already involved in this issue. No one involved in this wants a day of
cheap rhetoric or facile assertions about what's ahead. We are trying to
combine that commitment to substance with a shared acknowledgement that
the event could be a strong organizing and outreach tool for all of us
committed to these issues and thus must be accessible to a wider audience
than those already up to speed with the issues.

We have another planning discussion set for tomorrow. Thus, lots going on
to make sure we can move instantly when we *do* have a date.

As soon as I know, I'll post to this list.
