Re: Invitation to Community and Not-for-Profit Organizations to the
Telecommunications 2000 taskforce - Service Provider Presentations
========================================================================
On November 4, 1993, the first meeting of the Telecommunications
2000 Taskforce, was convened at City Hall. This Taskforce, which
was called by Mayor Richard M. Daley, was charged with the responsbility
to prepare the City to be a full participant in the National Information
Infrastructure Initiative of the Clinton Administration - more commonly
referred to as the Information Superhighway.
Shortly after the initial meeting, the Taskforce became an
Intergovernmental Taskforce including representatives of County
Government Agencies, the State of Illinois and the Federal Government.
It was also agreed that in order to be as effective as possible, the
Taskforce should arrange for educational presentations by a variety of
information technology service providers. additionally, the decision was
made to make these presentations open, and to invite the attendance of
non-profit and community-based organizations such as yours.
The purpose of this letter is to notify you that Wednesday, March 30,
and Wednesday, April 20, 1994 have been scheduled as the first dates for
these service provider presentations, and to formally invite your
organization to these presentations. The Main Auditorium on the Lower
Level of the Harold Washington Library Center has been reserved on both
of these days for presentations to members of the Telecommunications 2000
Taskforce and other interested persons.

At this time, I have sent letters of invitation to a variety of
telecommunications service providers such as the local cable companies,
MCI, Ameritech, Motorola, Zenith and General Instrument Corporation. If
there are other companies to whom you think invitations should be sent,
please do not hesitate to contact me with that information.
As currently planned, March 30 is a full-day session from 9 a.m. to 5
p.m., and April 20 an afternoon session from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.. I
anticipate two presentations during the morning on March 30, and two or
three afternoon presentations on both dates. There will be a break for
lunch on March 30, however nothing formal is planned and you should make
your own arrangements in that regard.
I believe these will prove to be both interesting and informative for
the Telecommunications 2000 Taskfroce, and I look forward to seeing you
on March 30 and April 20. Please contact my office to confirm your
attendance.
