CNI Names Joan K. Lippincott as Associate Executive Director
WASHINGTON, DC - Joan K. Lippincott
has been named Associate Executive Director of the Coalition for Networked
Information (CNI). Clifford Lynch, Executive
Director of CNI announced the promotion of
Lippincott at the Fall 1997 CNI Meeting in Minneapolis,
commenting "Joan Lippincott has played a central role from the beginning in
establishing and growing CNI, and later performed an extraordinary service for
our entire community in keeping the Coalition vital during the extremely difficult
period following the death of Paul Peters. It has been a delight working
with her in the last few months as we have begun to map the next phase of
CNI's activities, and her new title simply recognizes her central role in
our work at the Coalition."
Lippincott has served as Assistant
Executive Director of CNI since 1990. In addition, she was Interim Executive Director
of the Coalition from November 1996 till July 1997, following the untimely
death of Founding Executive Director Paul Evan Peters.
During her time at the Coalition,
Lippincott has provided leadership for CNI's New Learning Communities program,
the Working Together collaborative workshops, the assesment program, and
CNI's work on electronic federal information, among other initiatives.
Prior to joining CNI in 1990, she held
positions at the American Council on Education, the National Center for
Postsecondary Governance and Finance, Cornell
University's Mann Library, George Washington
University, Georgetown University, and the State
University of New York at Brockport. She received an
A.B. from Vassar College, an M.L.S. from SUNY
Geneseo, and has completed graduate coursework at
George Washington University and Cornell University.
She is currently completing her doctoral studies in
higher education at the University of Maryland at
College Park. She has written on such topics as
collaboration between librarians and information
technologists, networked information, and end-user
searching.
Duane Webster, the Executive Director
of the Association of Research Libraries, one of CNI's three sponsor
organizations, commented "Joan contributed exceptional leadership during a
difficult period for CNI. She provided stablility and inspiration at a
time when the community needed it most. Her talent and committment
provide a sound base for the continuing development of the Coalition.".
Richard West, Senior Vice Chancellor
of the California State University system and chair of CNI's Steering
Committee, further commented "Joan Lippincott has provided the continuity
this last year to allow CNI's program to not only continue, but
prosper. Her new title as Associate Executive Director is recognition of her
many past accomplishments and sets the stage for continued progress for the
CNI program now that the CNI leadership team is once again intact with
Clifford Lynch's appointment as Executive Director."
CNI
is an organization to advance the transformative promise of networked
information technology for the advancement of scholarly communication
and the enrichment of intellectual productivity. The
Coalition was formed in 1990 by the Association of Research Libraries
(ARL), CAUSE, and Educom.
