UMIE Project
A. Introduction A partnership among UM's Academic Outreach Program, College of Literature, Science & Arts, Information Technology Division, M-Pathways, Registrar's Office, and the University Library to address the need for campus instructional resources in the networked environment.
B. Problem Statement How to create a comprehensive and integrated environment for curriculum-related information resources for faculty and students. Strategic priorities included institutional emphasis on undergraduate education, the expressed need to use campus resources and infrastructure effectively to develop models of broad instructional support application across campus, the need to integrate administrative and academic data, and the proliferating development activity by individual faculty as well as at the school/college and department level.
C. Objectives: Desired Outcomes - To create an integrated, web-based environment for course development and management
- To provide broader access to course-related resources through campus information environment
- To establish an access framework with security, authentication, and intellectual property safeguards
- To establish an effective partnership among campus stakeholders capable of developing and supporting this environment
D. Strategies - Definition of functional components: access, security, collection, packaging, organization, intellectual property, production.
- Broad and integrated services of general use to faculty and staff
- Prototypes courses to serve as development test beds
- System integration and future planning

- Course page builder
- Electronic Reserves
- Prototype courses (Writing Practicum, Anthropology, Physics, other participants)
