Notes:

4) A governance structure for IT decision-making was also established which consists of a high level IT Policy Council (one of three in the university empowered by the President to make decisions), and advisory committees for academic and administrative issues.

5) The new IS organization was put together from units that had historically reported to either the Provost or the VP for Business & Finance and had functioned at mid-manager levels or below in the university hierarchy.

* Substantial restructuring and redirection was needed. The existing Director level positions were redefined, and two new senior people were brought into the unit, an Exec Assistant who has since been promoted to a Director and an experienced Associate VP were recruited.

* An extensive educational program on Learning Organization principles coupled with planning, project management, and service oriented themes has been designed for all staff.

* Every position in the unit has been evaluated and many have been redefined looking to where we want to go rather than where we have been.

* We are currently involved in a study to determine if we are ready to move to a team-based organizational structure.
