Teaching and Learning via the Network
Integrating Information Technology Into The Liberal Arts Curriculum
Using Network Technology
Project Number Two - 1992
An automated library system, a campus-wide network system, and
direct faculty access to off-campus online search services, is used
to teach information literacy at Drew University. Biology students
in lower level classes are introduced to bibliographic search
concepts using locally-mounted databases accessible both in class
and from their dorm rooms via the campus network. Advanced
instruction is provided in upper level biology courses by utilizing
the more extensive databases of an off-campus information service.
Biology faculty use their knowledge and experience in direct
supervison of student searching. The flexibility of the system
enables faculty in other disciplines to tailor bibliographic
instruction to suit their particular needs.
