ABOUT THE FACILITATORS

Barbara Dewey
University of Tennessee, Knoxville

Barbara Dewey is currently Dean of Libraries at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Before joining the University of Tennessee in 2000, she held several administrative positions at the University of Iowa Libraries, including Interim University Librarian and Director, Information and Research Services. Prior to her work at Iowa she was Director of Admissions at Indiana University’s School of Library and Information Science; Reference and Interlibrary Loan Librarian, Northwestern University; and Head of Reference and Adult services for the Minnesota Valley Regional Library in Mankato, Minnesota.

Ms. Dewey is the author or editor of four books and has published articles and presented papers on a variety of research library topics, including digital libraries, technology, user education, fundraising, and human resources. She holds an M.A. in library science, a B.A. in sociology and anthropology from the University of Minnesota, and a certificate in Public Management from Indiana University.

Betsy Wilson
University of Washington, Seattle

Lizabeth (Betsy) Wilson is the Director of Libraries at the University of Washington in Seattle. From 1992 through 2000, she was the Associate Director of Libraries for Research and Instructional Services at the University of Washington. Prior to joining the University of Washington, she was the Assistant Director of Libraries for Undergraduate and Instructional Services at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She has been co-administrator of the award-winning UWired program at the University of Washington since its inception in 1994. Since 1988, Ms. Wilson also has served as the executive director of the Cicognara Library Program, dedicated to the study and promulgation of literary sources in the history of art.

Betsy Wilson has published and presented widely on information literacy; teaching, learning, and technology; educational collaborations; and assessment and evaluation. She has held numerous leadership positions in the American Library Association and the Association of College and Research Libraries, including chair of the ACRL Instruction Section, member of the ALA Council, and ACRL President (2000-2001). As ACRL President she promoted "Community and Collaboration" in libraries. She holds a B.A. in Art History and German from Northwestern University and an M.S. in Library and Information Science from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
