BRIEF PROJECT DESCRIPTION:

The Library, Instruction and Technology Services group at Mount Holyoke is trying to establish a culture of planning, assessment, goal setting, and deliverables to plans and goals procedure where none had existed in the past. We are developing a long range technology plan this summer which will represent phase two of our planning to support the College’s long range plan. This plan will be an institution wide information plan and will include plans for infrastructure, and both administrative and academic technology and information needs. Since we are a small college, we do not have access to the major planning resources available on largecampuses. We feel that taking a small and exemplary part of our plan and working with others who are engaged in the same process will be of great benefit in helping us to focus on the plan, assessment of the plan and implementation of a small part of the plan.

We intend to concentrate on building web based forms for administrative work and building a culture which uses web based forms as a vehicle for accessing, finding and delivering information both campus wide and off campus. That work includes training faculty, staff and students and enhancing our on-line information system structure so that it is easy to add forms and other kinds of information to it. We are going to concentrate on training students who can then support the work of staff and faculty to see if that works better that having faculty and staff do all of the work themselves. At the end of phase one of the process, we hope to have a good suite of secure and easy to use administrative applications for the purchase and payment of goods and services which are widely used by faculty, staff and students.
