Deadline: February 14

About the Briefings

Project briefings (presentations) are the heart of every membership meeting. A limited number of project briefings are accepted. Project briefings address state-of-the-art developments and issues of interest to the membership (see recent member meetings and https://www.cni.org/topics for more information).

  • Anyone may propose a project briefing: you need not be at a member institution to propose a session.
  • The meeting will be held entirely in person; presenters will be expected to register and speak in person (there is no registration fee) except in very unusual circumstances.
  • All presenters are required to provide proof of vaccination OR proof of a negative COVID test as an alternative to proof of vaccination. See the Health & Safety page for more information.
  • Project briefings are typically 30-minute to one-hour sessions that discuss a timely topic or a specific institutional or cross-institutional project related to digital information. As we did in fall 2022, we will also offer the option to propose lightning round presentations (limited to seven minutes, three slides, and a single speaker).
  • A limited number of project briefings will be accepted; topics that would particularly benefit from interactive discussion will be prioritized, as will proposals focusing on novel or creative approaches to community challenges.*
  • Applicants will be notified whether or not their proposal has been selected.
  • Once accepted, speakers will be contacted regarding the schedule.
  • Meeting attendees include senior IT, computing, research and library administrators, publishing executives, government officials, and others with a high level of interest in and understanding of digital information issues.
  • Presentations provide information about a project’s goals, progress, and lessons learned, but they may also involve demonstrations. Issue-oriented briefings include the presentation of background information on a CNI-related topic and more time for general discussion with the audience. Project briefings are not intended to serve as marketing sessions for new products or services.
  • We intend to record all sessions and to make the videos openly available after the meeting. In some exceptional cases we may accept a session that is not recorded at the request of presenters.

*CNI’s new, quarterly Pre-Recorded Project Briefing Series is designed to complement the biannual membership meetings, offering an opportunity to share updates and reports on new and ongoing initiatives in a more timely manner and on a year-round basis. Presentations that are well-suited for the pre-recorded briefings program include recently published reports and updates on new or ongoing projects, programs, or organizations that may have reported at CNI in the past, although proposals on any topic germane to CNI’s program are welcome, and anyone may submit a proposal, including non-members. We encourage prospective speakers to explore this program as they consider submission options. The Spring 2023 meeting will include only in-person project briefings.
