Home / CNI News / Schmidt Sciences RFP for AI Humanities Funding

December 16, 2025

We wanted to pass along a recent funding opportunity that could be of interest. Last week, Schmidt Sciences announced the RFP for the next round of funding for the Humanities and AI Virtual Institute (HAVI) program. More information about the program is available in the below announcement.[1]

You can also learn more about the most recent round of awardees at: https://www.schmidtsciences.org/havi-2025-announcement/

Sincerely,

Paige, CNI Communications Manager

[1] Schmidt Sciences’ Humanities and AI Virtual Institute (HAVI) is requesting proposals for research projects which foster research in the digital humanities with a particular focus on artificial intelligence. Projects should request budgets up to USD$800,000, and the deadline for submission is March 13th, 2026 11:59pm EDT. You can find the full details for the request for proposals as well as the application portal here.

HAVI is a philanthropic initiative which intends to spur innovative, domain-specific research outcomes from humanities scholars through the integral application of AI-inspired tools and techniques as well as produce insights from the humanities that will advance the development of AI.

Our approach expects humanities scholars to play integral roles in AI development, while AI researchers gain deeper understanding of data, models, and problem spaces from humanistic perspectives. This collaborative framework aims to produce breakthrough results that advance both AI capabilities and humanities scholarship.
