This preconference will provide an opportunity for a small number of institutional teams of librarians and information technologists to develop techniques to increase the effectiveness of collaborative efforts and to begin a planning process for specific collaborative projects.
Many institutions have institutional programs in which teams of individuals from the library and computing center are working collaboratively to develop campus information resources and/or deliver campus information services. Those institutions who do not have such collaborative relationships often would like to develop them. This workshop will be an intensive, participant-oriented event, using a variety of participative techniques.
Key Objectives:
- Participants will gain an understanding of the broad range of opportunities available for joint action.
- Participants will be provided the time and tools to negotiate and develop collaborative and cooperative efforts to be undertaken upon return to home institutions.
- Participants will have the opportunity to explore and practice skills and processes designed to support collaborative efforts and encourage collaboration at all levels of the organization.
- Institutions are required to send teams made up of librarians and information technologists (preferably counterparts). Institutions are encouraged to send more than two people; the more individuals from an institution who go through this experience, the more likely it is that they will be able to move forward on their collaborative initiatives.
