This briefing will provide an analysis of a national survey of senior research officers (e.g., vice presidents of research) at member institutions of the Association of Public and Land-grant Universities (APLU). The data will be compared to the prior decade’s state of the profession and includes measurements of how often specific responsibilities are included in senior research officer (SRO) portfolios and what professional backgrounds these leaders are selected from. By identifying the most common SRO concerns as of December 2024, the briefing will include a discussion on how librarians and IT professionals can collaborate with their SRO to address future challenges to research universities.
