It Took a Village: The Evolution of Samvera

Home / Project Briefing Pages / CNI Fall 2019 Project Briefings / It Took a Village: The Evolution of Samvera

January 3, 2020

Carolyn Caizzi
Head, Repository and Digital Curation, Libraries
Northwestern University

The aim of Samvera (formerly Hydra Project), both as a community and as a technology stack, is to work together to deliver common core repository functionality that can be utilized for a wide variety of use cases. As the open-source community grew over the past decade, changes in governance, technology, resourcing, and community engagement were inevitable. Using the framework in theĀ It Takes a Village Guidebook, the presentation will discuss the recent changes in the Samvera Community to the phases identified in theĀ Guidebook. Lastly, the update will also discuss the successes and lessons learned over a decade of growth, and it will articulate a future vision for Samvera.
