The Ohio State University Libraries collaborated with Amazon Web Services and the Cloud Innovation Center at Arizona State University (ASU) on the development of digital accessibility tools that provide a cost-effective and timely solution for remediating PDFs and generating alt text at scale. The PDF Remediation Tool leverages Adobe AI-powered accessibility APIs and an alt text generator that utilizes a multimodal generative AI foundation model to generate alternative text descriptions for images, charts, and other visual items. These tools are in production within The Ohio State University Libraries with the goal of broad implementation across Ohio State collections by April 2026. The lightning session will provide an update on features and implementation enhancements Ohio State has made since originally collaborating with AWS and ASU.
