Research information management (RIM) systems are a rapidly growing area of investment in US research universities, capable of advancing research, supporting strategic decision making, and streamlining administrative workflows. Recent research conducted by OCLC shows RIM systems can support six major use cases, but the implementation of successful systems is complicated. In this project briefing, we will report on recent project accomplishments of the VIVO member-supported, open-source software community, a community program of Lyrasis. VIVO is an open-source RIM system and an ontology for representing scholarship. Our brief will explore the evolution of VIVO system through recent software releases that enhance usability, interoperability, and internationalization. We will also describe new partnership initiatives between the VIVO community and EuroCRIS, the European research information system organization.
