Invest in Open Infrastructure
Invest in Open Infrastructure (IOI) is developing a new tool, Infra Finder, to facilitate discovery and adoption of open infrastructure for scholarly and scientific research, publishing, and dissemination. We envision this tool to be of utility for decision makers and case makers in libraries and research organizations who are searching for technology to power their services, and seeking to adopt open infrastructure. Through interviews with groups of stakeholders, IOI has identified key information that these decision makers need in order to adopt open infrastructure. Whether it is a library looking for a new platform for its institutional repository, a publisher that needs a DOI minting solution, or a research team seeking a tool to facilitate data sharing, IOI’s new tool will enable end users to evaluate suitability of various open infrastructure solution based on factors including transformative influence, financial sustainability, governance, community engagement, and service delivery. This tool will be a foundational part of IOI’s overarching mission to increase adoption and investment in open infrastructure. The new tool will launch with an initial dataset from 60 infrastructures that enable open content and data sharing, as well as other services that have surfaced in our research. The data facets we’ll be sharing are informed by earlier research conducted in 2021-22. In this video, we present the results of that research, lessons learned from our first round of data collection, and our vision for a tool that can facilitate discovery and adoption of open infrastructure.
