Translations are a common way to learn from different cultures. This project focuses on how we can learn what languages and nationalities are commonly translated and which ones are not. This ongoing project at the University of New Hampshire is evaluating how information gained from linked data harvesting could inform a collection diversity audit to identify missing perspectives. This project uses externally created digital information in the form of Wikidata and/or VIAF records to enhance MARC descriptive data. By illuminating decision points in the process, the speaker will discuss lessons learned through examining the data, options for data visualization, the limits of using Wikidata, common description deficiencies, and next steps.
